Giant SCR1

July 27, 2008

So I have a slightly obssessive relationship with my bike and it turns out that I have a similar thing for my blog’s stats. And the thing that the two have in common is that quite a lot of my (piffling) traffic stems from people searching for the Giant SCR1 bike. So now that I’ve ridden over 250 miles on it, I feel I am in a position to comment on/review it. So if you are here from Google or wherever else, I hope this is of some use to you. Read on…

i *heart* bike!

EDIT: 27 July 2008 – My mini-review of the SCR1 here.

So as you may have seen on the cycle blog, I have finally got my road bike. It is the beautiful Giant SCR1 as pictured on the blog, except that in real life, in 3D, as it were, it is even better, a concoction of gleaming components, all catching the light.

I’ve added a few extra bits, so I now have a minimal rear mudguard to try and keep some of the rain off, a pair of scarily bright front and back LED lights, a wireless computer and the much discussed clip-in pedals/shoes combo, which if I’m honest, I was terrified of the prospect of.

Thankfully though my fears were unfounded (barring a minor wobble) when I took my new ride out for its inagrual run along the cycle path to Bitton, in order to visit the camping shop to get a thing we need for scouts. 8.5 miles each way and I loved it. The bike just went and went. Smooth, direct and effortless to cruise at any speed.

I’ve got a 20 mile ride after work tomorrow with my boss and I was filled with trepidation about it before I went out today. Now I’m looking forward to it and I’ve just registered for Bristol’s Biggest Bike Ride next Sunday…

Bring it on!
